Welcome!
This is a website about understanding epilepsy.
I created it because I believe there’s a need for plain-spoken, practical information about this
affliction, especially for the families and friends of people who have epilepsy.
I am one of those individuals, first diagnosed when I was 21 years old. But I am many
things, and do not use the term “epileptic” to describe myself. I have epilepsy but it does not
define me. There is just too much else to go for in life, however challenging it may be at times.
In my personal journey I have realized there are questions people have about this often
misunderstood condition. I have seen the discomfort and awkwardness in talking about it, or the
hesitancy to ask questions among those who have a person with epilepsy in their life –
questions which are quite understandable to ask.
I want to help overcome all that. There is no need to be misinformed, remain ignorant, or
to feel helpless when someone you know has a seizure or is diagnosed with epilepsy. For sure,
I am not a doctor or expert, but I do include information about professional resources. My hope
is that my personal experience, and from it my passion to create this website, may itself be
helpful to you and to others.
So please start anywhere you would like and seize the knowledge!
